Boiler FAQ’s

I have a furnace now, can I change my system to a boiler?

In some cases, this is possible. The ideal scenario is a ranch home with a completely unfinished basement or crawlspace. In two-story houses or houses with finished basements, it can still be possible, but would require quite a bit of extra work and the price might not be suitable for most customers. Call us to schedule a free in-home estimate today and we can find what is best for you!

I have a boiler now, can I still get Air Conditioning?

Absolutely! In most cases, this is a preferred method for heating and cooling your home. With sufficient attic space, we can install an air handler/ac system in your home with ventilation that taps into your ceiling, bringing cold air from above that blankets the space for superior comfort on hot summer days!

Are boilers more efficient than furnaces?

Boiler systems tend to be more efficient than central air systems in that water can carry much more heat than air per cubic foot. For example, the amount of heat in a 10×20-inch duct is the same as 1 square inch of a water pipe in a boiler system. For this reason, many new custom homes utilize boiler heat as a way to save space. Running a 1-inch pipe is much more space efficient than a 10×20-inch duct.

Can I install a boiler that also serves my hot water needs?

Yes! There are combination, or “Combi” boilers that serve both space and domestic hot water heat. There are also units that come with “sidearms” that heat a tank of water for your domestic usage while also heating your home.

How long do boilers last?

If well maintained, boilers can last many years. We service some units that are over 40 years old! It all comes down to maintenance, though. We recommend a thorough boiler tune-up yearly to increase the lifespan of any boiler.

Are you licensed to work on existing boilers?

Yes, we have a contractor’s license in steam and hot water through Denver, CO

How long does it take to install a new boiler system?

We can usually get a boiler change out done in 1-2 days.

Do you work on steam boilers?

Yes! Though not as common, we still have experience and expertise in steam boiler systems.

Do you work on commercial boilers?

Yes! Please call us for more information to get set up on a maintenance schedule.

How do boilers work?

Boiler systems have actually been used for thousands of years. Though today’s models are fancier and more efficient, it is actually a pretty simple method.

A boiler will heat water to a certain temperature

A circulator will circulate this water throughout the house in copper or pex piping

In certain areas, radiators or emitters will have hot water running through them. At these locations, the heat from the water will radiate into the area.

The water, now a little colder from releasing heat into the space, will return to the boiler to be heated again.

A thermostat, or sometimes multiple thermostats, will be placed in a location in the home that accurately reads the common temperature. This will control whether or not the boiler runs.
